Sexual Offenses and Sexual Misconduct

Since the beginning of the “Me Too” movement, much has been written about sexual assault, sexual harassment and sexual misconduct.

However, despite all the media coverage, it is important to understand that the state of the law has not fundamentally changed since the movement began. As a result, a person accused of a sexual offence is still presumed innocent until proven guilty and is not guilty until an impartial court that has heard the evidence decides that he or she is guilty.  This is why the outbursts seen repeatedly in social and traditional media are completely unacceptable.

From my perspective, there are always two sides to a story and my job is to get my client’s side of the story out. It is therefore without shame, embarrassment or prejudice that I discuss this type of file with my clients and it is with the same firmness as for any other file that I defend these cases before the Quebec courts.
