Traffic Tickets and other criminal offences
Tickets are penal charges. This means that they are charges that, if you are found guilty, will often result in monetary or other consequences, but NOT a criminal record.
Tickets are mostly issued for violations of the Highway Safety Code, such as speeding, excessive speeding, dangerous driving, cutting the line, not signaling, improper parking. In such cases, if found guilty, one is punished with a fine, often with demerit points and sometimes with a suspension of the driving license.
However, tickets can also be issued for violations of a multitude of laws that have nothing to do with the Highway Safety Code.
In any case, do not hesitate to contact me. Whether it is to plead the case, go to appeal, present a motion for retraction or simply negotiate the ticket, it is part of my job to know the rules and defenses applicable to each case!
